- File Format: PNG or JPGFor the best print quality we recommend PNG (especially for cut-out designs) or high-resolution JPG. Aim for at least 150 dpi at your desired print size.
- Bold Colours, Bold ResultsVivid, high-contrast designs look best on white mugs. Very dark or flat photos can appear washed out after printing.
- Black Mugs: Use Light ArtworkOn black mugs, white or very bright designs work best. Dark grey or muted images will disappear against the dark background.
- Magic Mugs: Contrast Is EverythingFor magic mugs, high contrast and clean lines are essential – only then will the design appear spectacularly when heated.
- Panorama Mugs: Think WideThe panorama mug has a wrap-around print area – design your image in landscape format and use the full width for maximum impact.
- Mind the HandleKeep important elements (faces, logos) away from the very edges – the handle covers part of the mug surface.
- Text: Keep It LegibleFonts should be at least 14pt and have strong contrast against the background. Sans-serif typefaces tend to look cleaner on mugs.

Which file format works best for mug printing?
We recommend PNG or JPG files at a minimum of 150 dpi. PNG is ideal for cut-out designs without a background. Bright, high-contrast images deliver the best results on white mugs.
Are the printed mugs dishwasher-safe?
Our mugs are optimised for hand washing. Frequent dishwasher use can affect the print over time. For maximum longevity, we recommend gentle hand washing with warm water and mild detergent.
How long does delivery take for a custom mug?
After your order is received, mugs are typically produced within 1–2 business days and dispatched via DHL. Total delivery time is 1–3 business days.
How does a magic mug work?
A magic mug appears completely black when cold. As soon as it is filled with a hot drink (above approximately 70°C), your printed design is magically revealed. When the mug cools down, the image disappears again.
Can I order a single mug without a minimum quantity?
Yes – Shirtinator has no minimum order quantity. You can design and order a single personalised mug at any time.
Can I print a full photo on a panorama mug?
Yes, the panorama mug is specifically designed for large-format images. The print area wraps around the entire mug – ideal for holiday photos, family pictures or wide panoramic compositions.
Are custom mugs microwave-safe?
Most mugs in our range – including the Classic, Panorama, Two-Tone and XXL Mug – are microwave-safe. The exception is the Magic Mug: it should not be placed in a microwave or dishwasher, as heat and water can permanently damage the colour-change effect.
